Minor Hotels has signed a management agreement for a 70-key Anantara retreat at Tindharia Tea Estate in West Bengal, with opening targeted for 2031.
Announced on 19 October 2026, Anantara Retreat Darjeeling Hills would combine accommodation with the identity and activities of a working tea plantation. The planned room mix is 35 suites and 35 tented villas.
For North Bengal’s hospitality market, that pairing is the useful business distinction: the estate itself forms part of the visitor experience. The proposal also includes wellness facilities and meeting space, broadening the planned offer beyond an overnight leisure stay.
A hospitality agreement establishes an operator relationship. Delivery will depend on project development, permissions, financing and construction. The retrieved announcement does not establish a construction start, and the opening year remains a target.
The commercial case will become clearer as the property develops: how it is positioned, which visitor markets it serves and how effectively it connects accommodation with the tea estate. No occupancy forecast or quantified employment effect has been independently established for this report.
The signing adds a proposed international-brand hospitality asset to the Darjeeling hills. MIE will distinguish the agreement from subsequent development milestones rather than treat the room count as operating inventory.
