What happened
BMW Industries informed the stock exchanges on 5 October 2026 that it had received Consent to Operate and commissioned the Colour Coating line at its Greenfield Downstream Steel Complex in Bokaro, Jharkhand.
The commissioned line is the first operating phase of the wider ₹803.47 crore downstream-steel project. The remaining Cold Rolled Full Hard and GA/GI/ZAM lines are scheduled to follow in later phases.
Why it matters
This is no longer only a proposed capital-expenditure story. A greenfield Eastern India steel investment has crossed into operations, expanding value-added coated-steel manufacturing in one of the region’s established metals clusters.
The project also positions BMW Industries further beyond conversion and processing, with the Bokaro complex covered under India’s specialty-steel production-linked incentive framework.
What to watch next
- Commercial ramp-up of the Colour Coating line
- Commissioning of the CRFH and GA/GI/ZAM lines
- Operating utilisation and revenue contribution
- PLI-linked sales from the Bokaro complex
Verified project numbers
- ₹803.47 crore: estimated cost of the wider Bokaro complex
- ₹341.6 crore: deployed by 30 June 2026
- ₹500 crore: debt funding tied up for the project
- Approximately ₹60 crore: capitalised for the commissioned Colour Coating line
