What happened

Odisha’s Chief Minister inaugurated new industrial facilities at Kalinganagar on 14 October, with the official state release naming IMFA among them. New Indian Express reported the IMFA plant’s annual capacity as 100,000 tonnes and said its first furnace had been commissioned on 25 August.

Why it matters

The project adds ferrochrome capacity within Odisha’s metals cluster. Ferrochrome is an input to stainless steel, linking this expansion to the state’s wider downstream metals economy.

What to watch next

Watch commissioning of the remaining equipment, stable operating performance and current company disclosures on capacity utilisation. Inauguration is not evidence of full nameplate output.

Source and verification

The state release confirms the inauguration. Plant specifications and the first-furnace date are attributed to New Indian Express; older company webpages may not yet reflect the expansion.
